Farcaster is a sufficiently decentralized social protocol that runs a live network of 800K+ users on a data-availability layer designed for social use cases. The founders came from Coinbase leadership and treated protocol design as a product problem from day one.

The Frames primitive (2024) — mini-apps that render inline in social feeds — created a genuinely new interaction surface and has since been adopted across the wider crypto app ecosystem as a standard for embedded experiences.

The 2026 focus is on graph portability and identity primitives that let developers build atop the same social graph without needing to rebuild network effects from scratch.
